all hell apparently broke loose in Cassava Piece

Dancehall deejay and high roller, Mavado, whose given name is David Brooks, left the island last week shortly after the police indicated an interest in speaking with him amid rising tensions in the inner-city community of Cassava Piece in St Andrew, from where the entertainer hails, and where at least one member of his family reportedly still lives. The tensions appear to have all arisen after the deejay, the self-styled ‘Gully God’, was shot at two Saturdays ago following a reported physical altercation with another person of influence in Cassava Piece. After the initial altercation, Mavado’s vehicle was reportedly peppered with bullets with him inside and only fortunately emerging unharmed, excepting perhaps for his personal pride and longtime standing as the ‘big man’ of the community. Following a report of the incident which he filed at the nearby Constant Spring Police Station on the day of the incident, and the detention and subsequent charging of a suspect with shooting with intent and other gun-related charges, all hell apparently broke loose in Cassava Piece and its environs, with multiple murders, shootings and other acts of violence being recorded, including one victim being actually shot, then chopped to death and his body burnt in the community. That led to the detention of a number of persons, including some five family members of Mavado, for questioning about the upsurge of violence in the community, and a curfew was subsequently established in the area. Amidst it all, the police are still awaiting the availability of the deejay who reportedly lives overseas and really only visits Jamaica on a frequent basis. He is said to be honouring a number of show engagements overseas. How and when will he be sitting down with police investigators and clearing up the notion that he may have skipped town simply because the police said they wanted to talk with him, when other dancehall hot steppers have been quietly doing 'years without tears' is the subject of this week’s take on ‘Here’s What We Know’, which is featured in the video below
