“After All” music video failed after managing just 1.6 million views on YouTube

The controversy surrounding the superstar Alkaline “After All” music video was expected to boost the track to greater heights, but seemingly failed after managing just 1.6 million views on YouTube since its release over a month ago. Many industry insiders have expressed total surprise towards the figure, as the track is arguably at its peak, considering the intense law enforcement scrutiny and media coverage it has received over the last few weeks. According to publicist Keona Williams, while the "After All" video may have been a popular hit locally, it has failed to attract significant international attention, where artists earn the bulk of their royalties from.
Williams claims that Jamaica’s relatively small population is insufficient to create any significant impact on the total YouTube earnings, as views are calculated by IP addresses and not by repeat views. Before law enforcement officials actually launched an investigation into the deejay’s controversial music video it had already amassed 1.2 million views, and since the heavily publicized investigation it has gathered only a further 400 thousand views. According to YouTube payment structures, channel owners are paid US$1000 per million views, meaning that Alkaline’s hit single would only have earned US$1,600 thus far, or roughly J$205,000.
